Hi, guys!
Hereβs some useful information for young car owners. Some might say itβs obvious, but Iβll tell you from my own experience β not everything is obvious to everyone.
So letβs start with the basics:
1. The engine oil should be changed every 3β4 thousand miles. Some cars are more sensitive to oil changes, others less so β this is just an average.
Always record the mileage after each oil change. We provide our customers with maintenance cards where we note the mileage and any other work thatβs been done.
2. Never overfill the oil above the normal level β and make sure no one else does it for you. Some local mechanics like to pour in all the oil from the canister without checking the level.
When checking the oil, look at the top mark on the dipstick β the MAX level. Anything above MAX can harm the engine.
Let me explain why: when the engine runs at high speed, the internal pressure will force out the excess oil through weak spots like seals and gaskets.
3. Never check the oil level while the engine is running β as they sometimes do at local shops.
Hereβs the correct way: start the car and let it run for 2β3 minutes, then turn it off and wait about 10 minutes. After that, you can pull out the dipstick and check the oil level.
Thank you for your time! Drive safe!
